About the Artist

When I was seven years old, I asked my mom to sign me up for a pottery class, and she did. I had no idea what I was doing, even though I thought I did. It was much harder than I ever could have imagined, yet I knew I had found my "happy place" from that very first class.

Fast forward a decade and countless hours in the studio, and I identify as a true artist.

I describe my style as “experimental juxtaposition.” My goal is to capture my adolescent mind through my work. This approach has led to self-discovery inside and outside of the studio. In addition, I strive to establish a somewhat unexplainable contrast in my collection.

Outside of the studio, I am a full-time student, a senior, at The Agnes Irwin School. Inside the academic setting, I take Ceramics, which has gifted me many friendships. Also, studying Ceramics inside of school has aided in my ability to make connections between subjects. For example, in Latin V, we are studying Pygmalion. Through this focus on Ovid's ancient Roman poetry, I noticed the relationship that clay has to life and love. In the poem, we see Pygmalion's Galletea evolve from an idea to a physical structure and finally into a human. Pygmalion's belief in his clay establishes a deep respect for its capability to be the building blocks of love, relationships, and most importantly, self-discovery.  Through this connection, I discovered how important interdisciplinary thinking is to cultivating a deeper understanding in school, but also in society.

In my sophomore year, I became involved in the Agnes Irwin Arts Council. I used this opportunity to share the importance of art and abstract thought. As the president of the board, I broadened the preestablished notions of what art can be to make sure art could apply to all my peers. The Arts Council hosts a week every school year where we get to present art to the entire upper school and run workshops to inspire newfound creativity.

During my summers, I spend two weeks as a volunteer ceramics teacher at the Wayne Art Center kids' summer camp. I love having the opportunity to teach children, some who are just as young as I was when I started, something I love so much
